Internal Water Leaks HOt And Cold

We often take our water supply for granted, rarely do we consider the consequences of a pipe failing or bursting.

We often take it for granted that water will flow from the tap and that it will be safe to consume, or technically 'potable'. Rarely do we think about the consequences if the supply fails, or a pipe bursts.
Although internal water leaks account for 90% of insurance claims for water damage, relatively few are caused by burst pipes, having an internal water leak is a significant inconvenience. There is very little you can do to maintain piping to prevent leaks internally. The majority are little leaks that, if ignored, gradually cause enormous quantities of damage.
Most of the piping is not maintainable since it is hidden beneath the floor in cavities or concrete screed. What steps can therefore be taken to reduce internal leaks?

Locating The Leak

When adding on, make sure that any interior installations are completed to a good standard, that plastic pipework is supported and fully tightened on joints, especially at joints and in cases where it is in a cavity floor, and that copper pipework in concrete is lagged to shield it from the corrosive lime in concrete.
Poor-quality plumbing should not be disregarded! It is probably under as much pressure as an automobile tyre, and even tiny internal leaks might eventually result in significant damage, especially sub-flooring saturation.
Make sure your isolators and stop cocks are in working order and know where they are. Customers frequently misjudge how to cut off the water in an emergency or find that the stop cock is blocked and unusable.
Likewise, be aware of the location and functionality of the external isolator. With a water metre, you can even find little leaks since each digit in the red area represents one litre, and the small wheel in the centre indicates them.
